This is a picture of me (Nickey) taken in 1995 by a friend. I am sitting in an old alligator juniper atop the south rim in the Big Bend National Park in the early morning having a cup of coffee. You can see Mexico in the distance. Notice the haze. That is pollution. There is a display at one of the ranger stations there that has an array of pictures taken from exactly the same spot every ten years since 1950. These pictures are accompanied by text explaining that the view into Mexico had decreased over the years. It went from 500 miles in 1950 to 50 miles in 1990. In this photo you can see the smog has not abated. In fact, it is worse. There is no source for this pollution in the area. It comes from Mexico mostly, but it also comes from the U. S. as well. The earth is covered with pollution. The trees are suffering from it around the world. It is time for the human race to find a better way.
